Oscar Mishap and Identity Crisis

President Trump is convinced that if the so-called speakers, presenters and accountants were less critical of him at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Award Ceremony (Oscar for short), things would have moved smoothly. True, all were trying to blame Trump of his policies, especially his travel ban for seven countries.

In a dramatic finish and anti-climax, ‘Moonlight‘ is declared as the Best Picture at the 2017 Oscars. The biggest tragedy was for ‘La La Land’ team who had the award for a few minutes only. The shocking end-of-night twist drama happened for the first time in the 89 year history of the prestigious Oscar awards.

One of La La Land’s producers, Jordan Horowitz, had to be interrupted to make the corrections and hand over the award to ‘Moonlight’ most graciously.

Presenters Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty blamed each other for the mishap, but the person behind this grave comedy of errors was somewhere else. Price Water House Coopers’ accountants, Brian Cullinan and Martha Ruiz, responsible for preventing that sort of thing from happening, are permanently barred.

Cullinan and Ruiz froze as the wrong envelope was handed over. Cullinan and Ruiz had to memorise the night’s winners list as a precautionary measure but the presence of mind eluded them at the crucial point. In fact, Ruiz and Cullinan were trained to meet any eventuality as well. They were not novices either.

Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs did not wait for an enquiry committee but decided on the spot to sack them both on the spot. The public anger against the two has been so strong that Price Water House Copper had to hire muscle men to safeguard them and their families.

The envelopes, particularly the small font used on them could be on reason. The nomination cards were also too small and confusing. The anxiety to keep the secret had its toll at the end of the day. The duo did not respond in time to correct the mistake.

‘La La Land’ did deserve the prize as well. The glamour and glitter of the 89th Academy Awards nomination went for a toll. Price Water House Coopers also lost their credibility. Some of the social media threats were drastic and obscene.

The president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Cheryl Boone Isaacs told that she was reviewing academy’s 83 years’ association with PwC.

The 89th Academy Awards will be remembered for the winners but a massive mistake. In fact, the similar goof up happened in 2016 Miss Universe pageant when Steve Harvey mixed up the name of the runner-up and the winner.

That night President Donald Trump had a lot of abuse from whoever had the mike. And that show was watched in more than 225 countries. Kimmel started taking some serious jabs at Trump and his tweets. Satirically, he wanted to thank President Trump for his racist policies.

Incidentally “La La Land,” which had 14 nominations, went home with six.
